SHEREKA MCLAIN

CEO & FOUNDER

Hello and welcome to my amazing journey!  I am Shereka McLain and I have trained, played, or coached in the volleyball world for as long as I can remember.  I have over 20+ years of experience and enjoy developing mentally dominating players.  I pride myself on building well rounded young ladies on and off the court.  I choose to use volleyball as the tool to reach and teach strong foundations of life.  I was blessed to start Francis Marie Thomas VB Association in honor and memory of my extraordinary Mother, who I unexpectedly lost to Pancreatic Cancer in 2012; thus, the reason we proudly wear Purple.  God has blessed me to help nearly 50 girls to receive scholarships to continue to play in college and although a huge accomplishment, I have so much more to give to our future.  I am excited about this new adventure and proud to be a part of such an amazing program with the same beliefs and core values for the athletes!  Buckle up, because we are just getting started.

SUSAN TRUSS

ADMINISTRATOR/TEAM REPRESENTATIVE

Susan Truss has been an administrator and coach since 2013. She loves the sport of volleyball, but more than her love for volleyball, she loves the interaction with players and their families. “As administrator and assistant coach, I work closely with families and players which develops a loving, long-lasting relationship. It’s an indescribable joy when a player and player see the fruition of the sacrifices that have been made throughout the season.” Mrs. Susan has been employed as the Tax Coordinator/Roving Civil Court Coordinator in Jefferson County for 24 years. She is the proud mother of 2, Japera- a registered nurse and Zion, who serves in the US Navy. Mrs. Susan is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first grandchild, (Japera and husband Travis) a baby boy. Married to Larry Truss for 18 years.

I received awards in volleyball including Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-District, YMBL MVP, and Offensive Player of the year. My senior year I played for the Chiefs and signed to play college volleyball at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Tx. After returning to SETX I began coaching for the Chiefs and have loved this program for many years now. I met my husband and now assistant coach playing volleyball and have a great love and passion for this sport. I want to pass my love and passion for this great sport on to as many players as possible. I look forward to another great year of Volleyball with AVB Chiefs.

AKA Coach Lex! I am a Chiefs Alum, and I will be coaching the 13’s this season! This is my first coaching season but with that being said my mother coached me all my life and learning from her, Coach McLain, and other coaches who paved the way, I know I’ve received all the knowledge and work ethic it takes to show my girls what it means to become winners and succeed in this sport we all love. I played with the Chiefs my last 3 years of high school as a setter. I was born and raised in Kountze, TX where I also played volleyball, basketball, track, and was a cheerleader. With the help of Coach McLain, my fellow chiefs, and my persistent drive; I received a full ride scholarship for volleyball and academics to THE HBCU Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. At Lane, I played both setter and defensive specialists throughout my 4 years in Tennessee. I graduated from Lane Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Biology on April 23, 2022. In my time playing for the chiefs, I gained not only knowledge to become a better student athlete, but a circle full of family, friends, and sisters that I know I will be able to call on for the rest of our lives. I plan to show and give these girls the same skill set, experience and abundant love the chiefs gave me!! I am beyond excited to share my passion for the sport of volleyball, and to create memories and bonds that will last a lifetime.

Because we are in fact… CHIEFS 4 LIFE!!!!!

 Hello,

My name is Pamela Hancock Orsot. I am a graduate of Kountze High School. I now have been teaching

and coaching for the past 33 years at Kountze High School and Beaumont ISD. My years of high school

at Kountze was filled with lots of extracurricular activities to include Volleyball, Basketball, Track,

Cheerleading, Student Council and National Honor Society. I graduated as salutatorian of my senior

class. During all 4 years of high school, I participated in the state championship games. I played on 3

State Championship Volleyball Teams; my freshman, junior and senior year and my sophomore year we

fail short of a State Basketball Title. My volleyball coach (Angela Cruse), mentor and coworker was a

straight-forward disciplined coach that didn’t settle for anything less than success. We were taught great

ethics; hard work, dedication and disciplined, the same philosophy that I carry still to this day.

I attended college on a Volleyball Scholarship to Mary- Hardin Baylor. I am only 5’3 and my speciality

was defense and left outside hitter: “I had a great Vertical Jump”.

I later transferred back home to Lamar University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Health

Education. I also have certifications in Physical and Special Education. At one time or another, I have

been a Head Coach of all High School Sports except Soccer, Golf and Swimming. Volleyball, being the

one that I chose to pursue the most. Seems Like EAT, SLEEP, REPEAT! Throughout my years, I have

coached many outstanding playoff teams, student athletes with volleyball scholarships as well as

student athletes with numerous accolades to include the highest being the Most Valuable Player of the

TGCA All-Star Volleyball team.

This is my 2nd year coaching on the staff at FMTVA Chiefs, after being asked for the past several years,

I finally decided to take it to the next level. I am still a firm believer as to “You Get Out What You Put In”

and that having a strong foundation of fundamentals along with heart, courage and intellect will take

you far. I am so looking forward to sharing and gaining volleyball knowledge under the leadership of

Co-Director Coach McLain and her dedicated Volleyball Staff.

Lastly, I have 2 amazing children, a young adult son, bright-eyed cheerful daughter, and an awesome

extremely busy husband that “in spite of” is still very supportive of all the extracurricular activities that

myself and children are/have been involved in. We both look forward to a great, exciting and successful

season with the AVB Chiefs.
